INSTRUCTIONS:

PROJECT 2: ANIMATED INSTRUCTABLE POSTER
Continued from Project 1, and we must produce a motion graphic within 1min. Before proceeding, I did a short animatic to ensure the flow was correct and included all the necessary information. Referring to the infographic I designed, my idea was to simplify the information into minimal words and recognizable icons. This will ensure users can understand the recipe quickly and may draw more attention to looking at the recipe in a fun approach.

#1 PLANNING THE FLOW
Transferring information from the Pasta Granny video (Isabella Canederli) into graphics step by step. From the infographic poster I designed, I added more detailed steps or explanations in the animation.

#2 FIRST IMPRESSION IS IMPORTANT!
Using similar elements in the previous infographics, I designed a video Thumbnail for Isabella's canederli. A great custom video thumbnail can make all the difference when a viewer clicks through to your video. The concept idea was to make a small food stall for Granny Isabella. As I observed from her video, she wore a customized apron, and like a checkered pattern, I highlighted them by designing a signboard and red checked table.

Animatics Feedbacks: a good job, the style portray the poster. Do make sure each scene have its own animation. However, I realised my first animatic attempt is quite boring to just layout all the text, I decided to look back at the project requirements and make something more exciting and easy to understand.

I started the animation by introducing all the necessary ingredients (poping out) and showing the amount needed.

Enlarge the ingredients and show the action frame by frame. I combined two ingredients that might have similar actions into one scene to make it easier to understand.

Making the ingredients and tools interact with the text by swiping away the text.

#3 THE DESIGN
I arrange the text in curvature using a mask tool to 'roll' with the canederli. Highlighting the main steps in larger point size and maroon colour.

Utilizing what we have learnt during the class, I animated the timer using the pie chart technique.

EXERCISE 3: KINETIC TYPOGRAPHY

Text Animation: Kinetic Typography
Graphic animation: Graphics elements

Kinetic typography
1.Word to word
2. Animated paragraph/excerpts with Final Composition.
Good text animation mixed both.

Apply Theory to Practice:
Kinetic Typography Music Video
P!nk - So What "So, so what? I'm still a rock star "

Tips and techniques:
Text Layer→ Character(Size, leading, kerning) Align.
Animate →Position, Scale, Opacity.

Keyframing:
• Range Selector →Start 100% →0% Easy Easy/F9,
• Graph Editor,
• Motion Blur
Composition:
• Paragraph, Guide Lines, Title Safe
 Null Object→ Parenting

For this exercise, we explore learning how to create kinetic typography by working backwards (setting the end keyframes) then adjusting the position and add other effects.

EXERCISE 3: Kinetic Typography
As a group, we are assigned to select a song to create a lyric video using our techniques in After Effects. After some discussion and voting, our group decided to use the song Derivikat - REVIVED, as this song has a fast beat which allows us to express the word and meaning.

Once selected, we split the music into chorus and verses. To ensure the consistency of the lyrics video style and visual aesthetic, our group leader (JiaSheng) and assistant leader (Tress) suggested a series of colour palettes, typefaces and glitch effects as a starting document.

REFLECTION:
Motion graphics is a really interesting topic to learn and explore. There were thousands of animate possibilities, and it requires constant practice to get a smooth transition and effects. It is fun entertaining and encourages more engagement with the audience. I realised planning is crucial before starting animation to view a bigger picture and visualise how each scene is connected, which influences how cohesive the story is. Besides, adding sound effects will spice things up as it emphasises what's on-screen and indicates the mood. Looking forward to exploring more effects and techniques in After Effects!
