PROJECT 1: INSTRUCTABLE INFOGRAPHIC POSTER
#1 THE TASK"A picture is worth a thousand words" infographics present complex information quickly and clearly, with symbols charts, and diagrams. With an information graphic, computer scientists, mathematicians, and statisticians develop and communicate concepts using a single symbol to process information. Our task is to transmit a set of instructions and at the same time educate the audience.

#2 INFORMATION BREAK DOWN
We first Identify our favorite video from Pasta Grannies' YouTube channel. Isabella's Canederli video caught my attention with her friendly smile and the attractive Youtube thumbnail.Figure 1.0 Isabella's canederli (source), 18th Jan 2022 After watching the video, the recipe made me want to taste the canederli. Then I proceed to study and break down the information and processes into 3 major steps. There some ingredient names that I am not familiar with, so I searched and attached fro reference as well.Figure 1.1 Recipe break down, 18th Jan 2022#3 OBSERVATIONI love the smile of Grand Isabella and how she teaches every step to make canederli. I observed Granny Isabella has a cute customized apron with her name. This reflects she loves checked patterns which can be seen on her table cloth as well. The video is shot during the winter and I thought to include the snowing scene in my infographic design later on.Figure 1.2 Table cloth, 18th Jan 2022Figure 1.3 Isabella and winter background, 18th Jan 2022Figure 1.5 Working documents, 18th Jan 2022 #4 THE DESIGN PROCESSMoving forward, I started to search for references and compile them to produce a mood board. Besides, I searched for relevant infographic samples to have a better idea of the layout. I decided to choose the "Process Infographic style" to deliver all the steps. The color chosen is a warmth palette that reflects the mood of the video.Figure 2.1 Mood board, 18th Jan 2022Figure 2.2 Process Infographic, 18th Jan 2022Figure 2.3 Sketch, 18th Jan 2022Figure 2.4 Digitize #1, 18th Jan 2022Figure 2.5 Digitize Layout #2, 18th Jan 2022 #6 THE LAYOUTSThe layout is designed utilizing LATCH theory that we have learned.-Location: portray cooking process in kitchen, and the winter scene-Alphabet: Main steps are bigger point size, the detail is the smaller point size-Time: poaches time (10mins).-Category: in the PREPARATION stage, I separated the bread and cheese and the other sub-ingredients-Hierarchy: To ensure the visual hierarchy, I plan the steps from top to bottom and indicate with a different background tone.Figure 2.6 Refine digitise sketch with isometric grids, 20th Jan 2022Figure 2.7 Isometric grids, 20th Jan 2022Figure 2.8 Trying out colors, 20th Jan 2022 Feedbacks: The traffic light idea is great, the hanging idea works.
#7 REFINING THE ELEMENTS
After finalizing the layout, I start to work on more detailed designs for the elements (including the line stroke, colour and patterns). As I decided to portray the winter scene from the video into the poster, I make the snowy effect and design a recipe booth with a snow rooftop and a Christmas tree. I also applied the checked table cloth that I observed from the video onto the tabletop design. As for the title, I customized it into a hanging signboard to make it.Figure 3.1 The recipe process & deco elements, 20th Jan 2022Figure 3.2 Isabella canederli signboard, 20th Jan 2022Figure 3.3 Traffic lights (3 steps concept), 20th Jan 2022Figure 3.4 Refine ingredients illustrations (before & after), 20th Jan 2022Figure 3.5 Ingredients, 20th Jan 2022

REFLECTION:"A picture is worth a thousand words" infographics are the key tool to present complex information quickly. I realized it could be fun and interesting instead of 'formal' while graphically representing information. It was a fun journey to break down and chunk the information then convert it to a simplistic graphic. Learning the L.A.T.C.H concept helped me reflect the video's context into the graphic.
I have learned that a good infographic needs to communicate the central idea and contain at least 3 aspects, which is "must-see", "should-see" and"can-see". MUST SEE is vital to the comprehension of the graphic and should be highlighted. SHOULD SEE category will help to add an interesting layer of insight. Lastly, CAN SEE category is the least important but gives viewer a chance to explore the graphic in greater depth. Colors and typography also play a vital role to ensure the visual hierarchy that makes the graphic easy to navigate and distinguish different types of information.
