FLIP 1// Different Types of Infographics & Online ToolsINDIVIDUAL:
Task: redesign an infographic with online tool
Online tool used: Canva
PRACTICE #1:Before redesigning a poor infographic, I practised by redesigning an infographic found in Canva. I use this opportunity to get familiarised with the tools and templates in Canva. I choose to re-create this poster because it contains too much text as a whole which the audience might lose interest in reading. Second, the color theme is not suitable for the content.

DESIGN #2 SUBMISSION:
DESIGN #2 SUBMISSION:
1. Choice of typeface: not suitable with content, inconsistent font causing audience hard to digest information2. Visuals: too many illustrations and unrelated visuals that mislead the audience (e.g. Simpson, variety of fast food, spectacles)3. Colour choice: too many colours, hurting eyes and text not visible 4. Information: data arrangement can be better, to convey the message/ information
Figure 3.0 Selected poor infographic, 6th Jan 2022Process placing the information and dividing the content into two sections (cholesterol and clogged colon). Then add related symbols and icons which can better convey the message. For example, the human silhouette presenting "1 out of 6" and a heart shape to show a "healthier lifestyle." Besides, I introduce bright color to this infographic as hot color often presents "FAST FOOD."
Figure 3.5 Final re-design infographic, 6th Jan 2022CANVA REVIEW:Difficulty & intuitiveness: 8/10. Canva is a user-friendly application with a drag-and-drop interface. It is easy to understand and operate with a good workspace. All the essential tools for designing are provided. Canva also provided some useful tips and tutorials to guide the user step-by-step.
Usefulness: 7/10. One of the significances of using Canva is the wide choice of font and the ease to edit with text boxes. It also provides snap guidelines for use to align the elements and text. Users are also able to search related icons or elements from the search bar which makes the whole design process more convenient and efficient. Besides, I pretty like the auto-save function which is able to save the latest version without worrying about "forgot to save file".
Templates: 7/10. There is a variety of templates to choose from, with multiple categories including a colour palette. The templates also come with recommended sizes when users try to search on the keywords. However, most of the free templates are pretty basic unless you subscribe for premium.
