INSTRUCTIONS:
FINAL PROJECT// PROMOTIONAL MERCHANDISE & DISPLAY
In this task, we are to propose and produce a minimum of 5
merchandise items for a selected project from SBS (including 1 POP
display). The items should communicate the relationship of the
product and to increase the brand awareness of the product in ad
digital mockups.

Brainstorming
Task SegregationAfter proposing to Mr.Shamsul, we then finalised the top 5 merchandise.1. freezer bag & gift box (Wiceline) 2. magnets/keychains (wendy)3. reusable bag (tote) (Janice)4. gift cards (dorcas)5. pop up (seerat)
Pattern design Before we started to go straight into designing the merchandise, each of us was to design at least 3 patterns. To maintain the brand identity, I try to use the wave pattern we applied on the packaging and the soybean from our logo.Draft Pattern design First I combine the wave pattern on the bean, but it did not seem to work. Then I try to play with the bean shape, by reducing the opacity and overlapping each other. I was surprised by the flower shape formed by the 4 beans in different directions. It looked interesting. So I continue to develop with that direction and came out these patterns:

Draft Application on Merchandise We try to apply our own patterns to the merchandise we are in charge of. Then we send Mr. Shamsul for some feedback.

After receiving feedback from Mr Shamsul, we had a short discussion to finalise a pattern style that reflects the brand personality most. We have agreed to proceed with this pattern: Figure 4.5 Final tote design, 13th June 2022Figure 4.6 More design exploration, 20th June 2022We decided to go with the initial idea in a beige canvas tote. My teammates suggested placing the logo slightly downwards to ensure legibility and make the design look more balanced. Below is the refined tote pattern design.

OTHER MERCHANDISE:The other merchandise items were in charge by my other teammates, and I was involved by giving opinions and suggestions to refine the designs. Below are the progress for each merchandise design and pop-up display.

FEEDBACK:
Week 12
For the merch design, please make sure that the identity looks
consistent (color, design element etc). I prefer the first design
element on the top left in slide #1
Week 13All items are good to be submitted. it looks consistent and the design direction is very clear.
REFLECTION:
ExperienceCompared to Project 2, this project is slightly manageable as we have a clear direction on what the brand is about. It is just a matter of raising brand awareness and thinking like a marketer to promote the brand and new product launching. This part was exciting where we got to create patterns and apply to different merchandise. We worked together quite well throughout the process, which made the entire process more enjoyable. We had fun dumping ideas and having discussions to decide what to design for Okashi merchandise. Although each of us has different art styles and preferences, we are willing to voice out and make a decision that benefits the brand the most.
ObservationDue to the time limit, each of us is assigned one piece of merchandise to ensure the project can complete on time. I appreciate the ideas and feedback from my team members to ensure quality work is produced. This semester requires us to work more independently. Instead of asking for feedback from the lecturer directly, we had many internal discussions to make the design more solid. This process helped us develop critical thinking skills, which allowed us to improve the quality of our work.
FindingsThroughout this project, we learned more about applying the brand identity to the packaging. We got to practice the knowledge we acquired in our brand corporate identity module. It is crucial to maintain the consistency of the design style and introduce a variation on the patterns applied to merchandise. After this project, I discovered my interest in product packaging designs and hoped to get more opportunities to explore this field.
