INSTRUCTIONS:

PROJECT 1// EDUCATIONAL HAPPY MEAL
For this assignment, we are supposed to create a happy meal packaging design with an educational message along with its fries packaging. After doing some research on Happy Meal Packaging, I try to search for the topics that suit children.

I decided to choose "Value of Money" as my educational topic. According to financial experts and studies, by the age of seven, most children would already have grasped how money works — this is when they usually start handling their daily allowance at primary school. In addition, their attitudes towards money should also be formed by this age. Educating kids on the value of money from an early age will help them to become savers not spenders.

I also reintroduced characters from television commercials, McDonaldland. The major character is Ronald McDonald, a clown who is the primary mascot of the McDonald's all-American restaurant chain for over 50 years. He has been the "Chief Happiness Officer" of the company since 2003. In television commercials, the clown inhabits a fantasy world called McDonaldland and has adventures with his friends Grimace, Hamburglar, Birdie the Early Bird, and more.

FEEDBACK:
Week 5: Item #1 - The box holder can be improved by having the glued sides to be stronger. The window can consider cut away. Item #2 - The candle box is nice, can use glue or double-sided to glue it.

Week 6: Piggybank idea might not work as the material of the box is thin, not suitable to put coins. May try to think other mays to deliver the information.

Week 9: The first draft layout looks okay but not very exciting, can explore more. The idea of letting the kids colouring looks interesting.

REFLECTION:
This project is a start-up for us to look into food packaging related to our project 2. The process is fun in deciding the content and exploring the layout and art direction. However, due to the hectic deadlines, I have limited time for more exploration, but I tried my best to complete it. The first attempt was rigid, and I realised I tend to work on the elements and forget that the visual mainly targets the kids, which should be more playful and attractive. We should always consider the practicality of packaging design, not only aesthetically. Besides, the colour must reflect the brand image and identity. Overall, this task is still manageable as we don't have to print out the actual box but digital mock-ups.
