Week 12// Colour Correction, Colour Grading
1. Colour Correction
A process where every individual clip of video footage is altered to match the color temperature of multiple shots to a consistent appearance.
Steps:

Select Lumetri scope: RGB Parade, Waveform, Vectorscope
RGB: An additive color model in which red, green, and blue light are
added together in various ways to reproduce a broad array of colors.
Adjust Basic Correction: Exposure, Highlight, Shadow

Week 12// SoundDesign
1. Time stretching/compression
Changes the length of audio without altering its pitch
2. Pitching Shifting
Process of adjusting the pitch of an audio signal upwards or downwards, for both corrective (getting a vocal perfectly in tune, for example) and purely creative (changing the character of a drum loop, say) purposes.

Week 13// Mise en scene
1. Composition
the deliberate selection of frames and camera angles that make up a
shot. Manipulating composition can accentuate the emotional themes of
the story and communicate a sense (or lack) of meaning to the audience.
2. Set Design
Everything the audience sees within a particular scene. These details
help build out the world of the location and add even more context to
the story.
3. Lighting
Tool that conveys mood most clearly. High-key lighting, often used in
musicals and romantic comedies, relies on hard light to minimize
shadows. Low-key lighting, often used in horror movies.
4. Costume and Props
A prop is an object with a function that serves to drive the narrative
or become a motif to underscore the themes of the film.
5. Depth of Space
Depth is determined by the distances between objects, people, and
scenery, influenced by their placement along with camera location and
lens choice.

FINAL PROJECT: Shooting Practice & Editing
3 Favorite Stop Motion Videos
The idea of turning something raw to 'ready to serve' in a single
cut is awesome. It makes viewers believed the 'magic' and draws
their attention to keep watching. It has a strong concept of
portraying the title fast food'. The good lighting and colour
adjustment give the right mood for the audience. The choice of the
background highlighted the ingredients on the table which provides
a good apatite and makes it look more natural.
With a relaxing tone and joyful music, it brings the audience to an exciting adventure with a single memo pad. The concept of 'Think out of the box' has been portrayed to allow the audience to imagine different possibilities of a memo. We wouldn't realize it is an advertisement because of its strong engagement of the product with the audience.
Figure 1.2 'Stop Motion Vegetables' by Clem Stamation (source), 26th Aug 2021
This stop motion is fantastic. The idea of making parts of the fruits and vegetables into musical instruments is brilliant. Every cut and movement is clean and the composition is balanced throughout the video. It was so eye-pleasing to look at it. The choice of color and the background music makes the clip epic and lively.
Oscar-nominated Stop Motion Animation
Figure 1.3 'Negative Space' by Tiny Inventions (source), 26th Aug 2021
'Negative Space' has a strong meaning behind the animation
which allows the audience to have deep reflections. It creates a sad emotion with the cold color tone and music
choice. The design of interior spaces, landscape, furniture, and
lighting are so detailed. The different camera angles and the
transition created for each scene are smooth and
interesting.
PROPOSAL
During this process, we were required to come out with a
storyline that reflects a social issue. After doing some
research, I decided to choose food waste as my topic. From
there, I drafted my storyline and decided to make it a more
child-friendly story. Therefore I come out the story "Bobby
& Foody".
Storyline #1 "Bobby & Foody"
The story is a boy called Bobby who loved to eat, especially fast food and desserts. Whenever he eats a buffet, he will take up to 5 plates of food for himself. He did not care about what people said terribly about him. His tummy becomes bigger and bigger, but sometimes he will throw the unfinished food into the dustbin. One day, when he was sleeping, he dreamt about something scary. All the unfinished food combined and became a monster “Foody” to attack Bobby. “Foody” was so angry because Bobby didn’t appreciate them. Bobby was scared, and he realized his mistake that he should not waste food. He begs “Foody” to let him go, and he swears that he will never waste food again.

Feedback: Lack of intention of each of the characters, can add
more motive for the action.

Figure 2.5 Drive-Thru rough cut, 30th Oct 2021
Storyline #2: Drive-Thru
Bobby lived in a city. He was impressed by the city view. He drives his mini red car along the way and passes by a McDonald's drive-thru station. When he wanted to order his food, a big blue car appeared and honked at him. Suddenly, a big blue Ferrari appears and honks at him. It was the rich guy called Foody. Foody parked his car in front of Bobby's car and accidentally crashed his car bumper. Foody just ignored and laughed as he was waiting for his order. When Foody got this burger, there is a giant piece of bread suddenly hit his head. Foody is confused when another piece of cheese drops on him again. Bobby laughs at Foody, and the other slice of giant vegetable and tomato starts to fall from the sky. They are impressed with the huge burger. They begin to eat the burger. As Bobby is ready to drive his car, Foody's burger drops. Bobby laughs and drives his car away.

Figure 2.10 Drive-Thru Revised #2, 1st Nov 2021
Feedback: The cuts and transition is too fast, add more detail shots to make it smoother.
After receiving feedbacks, I reshoot most of the scene and minimize the movement for each frame.
Feedback: The sound effect for the blue car can be louder (more
powerful), the part when the burger pieces dropped from the sky, can
add sound (like a punching pillow). So, I searched for more impactful sound effects to increase the impact of the video based on the motion.
FINAL SUBMISSION:
Figure 2.12 Final stop motion "A Special Drive-Thru", 24th Nov 2021
Rationale: This stop motion reflects a scenario of the incident happening at a drive-thru station. A rude driver showing off a new car reflects human nature who tends to show off in this materialistic world. The plot twist occurs when a huge burger falls from the sky onto Foody's head to give him a lesson. At the ending of the story, Foody was too excited about the huge burger, and the mini burger that he had ordered previously slipped from his car. At last, Bobby was the one who drives away with the huge burger. This ending of the story reflects "things happen sometimes in an unexpected way and don't be greedy as you might lose everything."
FEEDBACKS:
Week 11: Lack of intention of each of the characters, can add more motive for the action.
Week 13: The cuts and transition are too fast, add more detail shots to make it smoother.
Week 14:The sound effect for the blue car can be louder (more powerful), the part when the burger pieces are dropped from the sky, can add sound (like a punching pillow).
REFLECTIONS:
The whole experience of making stop motions is fun yet challenging. It took me some time to draft the storyline and try shooting with clay. It was fantastic to learn about different types of animation, camera shots, green screens, lighting, editing, sound. The process was challenging, and I tried many attempts to make the stop motion work. I was glad to receive feedback from Mr. Martin to improve the stop motion little by little. I enjoyed the process of setting up the scene and clay puppets the most. However, it requires patience to fix the part or change the position and emotion of the character after a particular shot. As the filming process is a continuation, it requires more care and control of the camera's stability and position to ensure the photo's outcome.
